5 Human Capacities
Lesson 5
Put It All Together in Your Mind — The Right Use of that Overworked Dimension
You might think that the human dimension containing our intellect should reign supreme in our lives. After all, haven't humans been called "thinking animals"?
But the O dimension is more than thinking. It contains our personal memories as well as the knowledge and experience of our ancestors. It is a kind of universal memory bank.
Unfortunately, we've filled up that bank account with ideas and what we call "facts," pieces of knowledge that, when we dip into the account to make a decision, we come up with a confused mess of possibilities, inconsistencies, and opinions. At the beginning of the pandemic especially, we were flooded with news and warnings and conflicting statements from authority figures about what we should and should not do.
It's time to reprogram that memory bank with what works. If you've done the previous four lessons, you're already doing that. With your U dimension, you're listening to your body and becoming aware of your connection with others. Your A dimension is delivering emotions, imaginations, intuitions, a sense of universal spirit, and inspiration. And you've begun to call upon your discernment to make good decisions, learning to act from a place of awareness, sensing, and emptiness instead of from anxiety, sentiment, shoulds, or ideas.
Don't think your O dimension doesn't notice all this. And you yourself may notice. You may recall the time you got the message to leave the Interstate moments before a three-car pile-up and be inclined to listen to that feeling when it arises again. Or you may remember the feeling of being loved by a parent who is no longer living and realize they are still with you.
Over time, you will be reprogramming your memory banks with knowledge of what works and what doesn't. Your new way of being in the world will become anchored inside you.
To experience the nature of O dimension through its sound, close your eyes and, with spine straight, drop your attention to your belly. Start with your teeth touching then open your mouth halfway, making it round, and say "oh" with your full voice for as long as is comfortable within a single breath. Do not let the sound continue for a very long time, as in a mantra. At the end of the sound, again touch your teeth together.
Repeat this method for the sound of "Wo."
Notice how you feel after each sound. Where do you feel the sound in your body?
This week, consider what role the intellect has played in your life and how that has made you feel, both physically and emotionally. Consider how you want to relate to your O dimension now, after having explored this course so far. Notice when you're making decisions from your intellect and when you're accessing your other dimensions.
Next week, we'll talk about the final human capacity--your life will.
